🔹 RS485 to TTL Converter Module – MAX485 Based, 5V / 3.3V Compatible

This RS485 to TTL converter module is based on the MAX485 transceiver IC, enabling seamless communication between TTL-level devices (like Arduino, ESP32, STM32) and RS485 industrial networks. It provides reliable half-duplex serial communication over long distances (up to 1200 meters) in noisy environments, making it ideal for industrial automation, Modbus systems, and multi-device networking.

Specifications:

  • IC Base: MAX485 (or compatible equivalent)

  • Interface: TTL to RS485 (Half-Duplex)

  • Operating Voltage: 5V DC (typical), 3.3V compatible (check module version)

  • RS485 Voltage Levels: Differential ±5V – ±12V

  • Data Rate: Up to 2.5 Mbps

  • Communication Distance: Up to 1200 meters (4000 feet)

  • Number of Nodes: Up to 32 devices on bus (standard)

  • TTL Logic Level: 3.3V / 5V (varies by module; verify before use)

  • Onboard Features:

    • 5.08mm screw terminals for RS485 connections (A, B, GND)

    • 4-pin header for TTL interface (VCC, GND, RX, TX)

    • 120Ω termination resistor (jumper selectable on some boards)

    • Power and data indicator LEDs (on some modules)

  • Dimensions: ~40mm x 15mm x 10mm (typical)

📦 Pinout (Typical):

For simpler control, RE and DE can be connected together and controlled by a single microcontroller pin.

⚠️ Important Notes:

  • Half-duplex only. The MAX485 is a half-duplex transceiver; communication must be directional (send or receive, not simultaneously).

  • Termination resistor. Enable the 120Ω termination resistor (if available) on devices at both ends of the RS485 bus.

  • Logic level. Verify whether your module is 5V or 3.3V tolerant to avoid damaging your microcontroller.

  • Common ground. For reliable communication, connect GND between all devices on the RS485 bus (optional but recommended).

  • Cable. Use twisted-pair cable (e.g., CAT5/6) for RS485 A/B lines for best noise immunity.
