Heatsinking is CRITICAL: For full 5A continuous operation, the diode MUST be soldered to a generous PCB copper pad/plane that acts as a heatsink. Inadequate thermal design will cause immediate overheating and failure. Consider using a SMC (DO-214AB) or larger package if board space allows for better thermal performance.
⚠️ Important Design & Safety Notes:
Thermal Management is Paramount: This is the most critical aspect. The SMA package has limited thermal mass. Use thermal vias to inner layers, large copper pours, and possibly external heatsinking for sustained high current.
Reverse Leakage: Schottky diodes have higher reverse leakage current than PN junction diodes, especially at high temperatures. This can be significant in precision circuits.
Voltage Rating: The 40V rating is suitable for most low-voltage power applications (e.g., 12V, 24V systems). For higher voltages, use the SS56 (60V) or SS510 (100V).
Current Derating: At elevated ambient temperatures, the continuous current rating must be reduced according to the derating curve in the datasheet.
